Grand Lake Theater

Launch Tour

The Grand Lake Theatre is one of Oakland's most beloved landmarks — a stunning 1926 movie palace at the corner of Grand Avenue and Lake Park Avenue that has been screening films continuously for nearly a century. Designed by architects Reid & Reid, the theater features four auditoriums including a grand main hall with a restored Mighty Wurlitzer organ that rises from beneath the floor for live performances before Friday and Saturday evening shows. With its Egyptian Revival and Moorish styled interiors, its iconic 52-foot illuminated marquee — the largest rotary contact sign west of the Mississippi — and its reputation as a genuine neighborhood institution, the Grand Lake is unlike any other movie theater in the Bay Area.

This high-resolution 360 virtual tour was captured throughout the Grand Lake Theatre's interior — including the historic lobby, auditoriums, and signature architectural details that make this 1926 movie palace so distinctive. Professional-grade 360 equipment was used to accurately render the rich ornamentation, dramatic lighting, and grand scale of the spaces. The tour gives film lovers and curious visitors the ability to explore one of Oakland's most iconic landmarks in detail from anywhere in the world.
